This is a call to arms. We, the human race, must annihilate this horrible species into extinction. Because wasps suck.

An open letter to iPhone users who take videos vertically
STOP IT! I swear to God, if anyone does this, stop right now. You don’t film videos vertically. The aspect ratio is not 9:16. It is 16:9. Every time I see someone filming vertically it feels like I’m watching a drive-through movie, but I have to do it through the space between two parked cars. This mostly concerns girls who are spoiled enough to pester their parents into giving them an iPhone, but also most guys. I see no point in filming vertically. I know that when you open up the damn video camera and it’s default setting is to record vertically, but how damn hard is it to turn the damn phone 90 degrees to the right or to the left? It takes less energy to do than to send all those damn misspelt texts you insist on doing because “Spelling everything right takes too much time.”.
And Apple. You damn capitalist of a corporation. Why do you even offer the oppurtunity to film in 9:16. If I offered you the choice to take a sledgehammer to the face, would you take it? Because that’s what it’s like watching a 9:16 video.
Arguments for filming vertically:
“It’s the default recording setting.” You can change it genius.
“You’re getting all this stuff on top of what you’re filming.” Last time I checked, there’s more “stuff” to the sides of what you’re filming. And also, there’s not that many interesting “stuff” on top of things to see.
“It looks better vertically.” No it doesn’t. Every professional movie ever made, every tv show, everyone who’s taken at least one amateur videography course or who has common sense knows to film horizontally.
“I’m not a professional.” Doesn’t take a professional to turn a phone 90 degrees.
“No one cares.” If no one cares, why is this one of the biggest pet peeves of the 21st century.
So please, stop filming vertically. I’ve had enough of these “Videographers” raping the film industry.
Only time where it’s even remotely okay to film vertically:
- When you’re going to edit it in post and the final product is going to be a split screen video with an aspect ratio of 16:9.
- When you’re shooting a portrait photo, and even then, it’s iffy
When you’re a child and you don’t know any betterEven children know not to do this.
